Roscoe Bay

We entered Roscoe Bay on a rising tide and anchored with the other 20+ boats.

The dinghy patch was dried enough to re-launch and Kent took Hugo ashore. The sun was shining and we sat on the bow for a couple of hours, but a slight cool breeze blew us inside to play Rumoli and to eat fresh boiled prawns. I served them with seafood sauce this time and we all enjoyed them. Even Bob who’d never had prawns before coming to visit! He didn’t even know he liked them, but of course, ours were very special as he helped Kent bait the traps, set the traps, pull the traps then clean the prawns.

My plan was to barbecue steaks for dinner, but by the time we finished prawns, crackers, sausage and cheese we decided to go straight to dessert - pound cake with fresh blueberries and icecream.

This morning we woke to Hugo poop all over the carpet. Kent was not amused, especially when Bob stepped in it and spread it to more areas of the carpet… poor little Hugo certainly didn’t do it on purpose - it was an accident (which he rarely has). He also peed on the sofa. I blame Kent for it all as he likes to give Hugo a little treat of whatever we’re eating - in this case it was prawns, butter and garlic. It’s just not Hugo’s fault - we know people food causes him extreme distress. Kent took Hugo to shore and left him for 10 minutes but of course Hugo didn’t have anything left to do, so he stood at the water’s edge and watched the boat. Soon all was forgiven and we loaded into the dinghy to go ashore for a walk to the lake.

A couple with 2 boys was camped near the creek and we stopped to talk. They were very interested to learn about Egmont and said they may stop in to spend the night at Egmont Marina, view the Skookumchuck and perhaps visit the museum.

We walked on to the lake and I threw sticks in the water for Hugo. He was soon wading up to his chest then swimming a few feet to get the stick. As he opened his mouth to grab at the stick, his head completely went underwater. It was very cute to watch. I repeated this little exercise when we walked back close to the lakeshore. Hugo is now a swimmer!

Our biggest haul of prawns was outside Roscoe Bay - 142 in 4 traps! We’re freezing some for Bob and Pam to take home.

Next stop is Harmony Islands for the night (after taking on 1807 litres of fuel in Powell River - we burned 4.83 imperial gallons per hour since the last fuel up), then back to Egmont for a quick tour of the Skookumchuck, perhaps the museum and dinner at the Backeddy Pub.

Thanks for visit, and congrats on the new blog. Sorry my visits so infrequent but I just don’t seem to get to do everything I need to these days as so busy offline.

Poor, poor Hugo. Yes, people food is not really suitable for dogs especially prawns…many people are also very allergic to them as well.

Luxor is part of ancient Thebes: ‘The Hundred-Gated City’ as it was called by the renowned Greek historian, Homer, because of its buildings and large gates. The city grew over the years, and the Arabs, impressed by its beautiful palaces and huge edifices, re-named it ‘Luxor’: City of Palaces. Luxor remained the seat of power from 2100 to 750B.C.

    Hi Heather,

You might have noticed that the Photo-A-Day images from The BenSpark have not been showing up for a week now. Something happened to the feed coming from Buzznet. I have been very disappointed in their performance and in an effort to fix the problem as well as cut down the work I do each night to make sure the images get out to everyone I have made a switch to Flickr to deliver the Photo-A-Day images. I have new code on The BenSpark (http://www.benspark.com/photo-a-day) that you can use to update the widget. This should prevent any need to update the code again. I apologize for the lack of images lately and I thank you for hosting Photo-A-Day on your Blog.
