This Eclectic Life

I happened across This Eclectic Life yesterday as I was entrecard dropping and started reading how Shelly Tucker from Denton, Texas helps children stricken by cancer, and their siblings. In July these children will attend Camp Sanguinity – a week long summer camp and Shelly is asking for help with her ‘Good Medicine Project’.
She is encouraging other bloggers to become involved, with a very simple request. She needs 3 ‘lucky charms’ or trinkets, from 120 people to put into ‘medicine bags’ for the children. These 3 trinkets must be very small (smaller than a silver dollar) and have some significant meaning which can be imparted to the children to show people care. Shelly is also asking for people to create the medicine bags.
Last year, more than 400 volunteers from around the world took part in her afghan project for the children who attend Camp Sanguinity. You can see pictures of the afghans and their presentation, and read a letter of thanks from the mom of 2 boys who took part in the camp – Special Delivery is a tear jerker.
As soon as I read of Shelly’s project, I knew I wanted to take part – and it didn’t take long to come up with 3 small items – actually I had trouble deciding on just 3 so chose 9 which means I will make 3 bags.

I couldn’t wait to get started creating a medicine bag, so found some leftover chenille yarn and crocheted this little bag. It’s all one piece (including the necklace part and the side seam stitching) with only one knot (securely tied and interwoven) so it should hold together for years! It is decorated with a few pony beads left over from another project and an anchor decoration which was removed from an old bathing suit.

If my small contribution puts a smile on the face of child, what more precious gift could I possibly give? If you’d like to take part in this wonderful project, check out Shelly’s blog for all the information – ‘This Eclectic Life’.
Shelly Tucker is an inspiration to me – she spends hundreds of hours organizing these projects for the children and encourages others to become involved… she is a truly selfless Blogger with a Cause!
