Bad Karma?

You know, I try hard to be a good person and follow the rules. I try not to question or second guess and I always look for the good… well, mostly.

When the post office put a package in my PO Box by mistake last week, I took it to the counter to turn in, telling them of this simple mistake. I could have opened it to see if it was something valuable and pocketed whatever the contents – who’d have known? Only me.

I learned early in my children’s growing up years, you need to set an example. How on earth can you expect your children to be honest if you are NOT. There were many times when I was not charged for all the goods I bought, or was given something extra by mistake, or given too much change – and I tried very hard to always make a point of telling my kids I was going back to the store to give back whatever it was that wasn’t rightfully mine. When my kids shoplifted and I found out – I made them take the item back and apologize.

So, I’m a good person right? Why is then, that bad things seem to happen to me?

Yesterday, my brand new car was smucked – ouch – that hurt. But, I made the best of it…

This morning I opened the brand new black Lancome eyeliner which I bought after the little fender bender… was it black as I had specifically requested? Nope – emerald green – who wears emerald green eyeliner? Well, it’s an hours drive to return it… am I going to do that? Nope – I put it on in place of the black – it’s good actually. I like it – but I still need black so I’ll go buy another.

I dressed carefully this morning, putting on my lovely new black velour Ralph Lauren jacket which I bought yesterday – it’s nautical and awesome – especially for this afternoon’s Crescent Beach Yacht Club Christmas Lights cruise. The boat is all dressed in lights, the guests invited, the appies ready – we’re going to party and I’m wearing my lovely new jacket which still has the security tag on it! How can I be so unlucky? Where was security when I walked out of Macy’s with that tag on the jacket I paid for?

Where did this bad karma come from?

I try so hard to be a good person…

Maybe it’s making up for something really awesome that’s going to happen to you?

Being a good person is good though! I always try and open doors and stuff for other people because they might be having a really bad day and that little thing just makes their day that little bit better.

I opened the door for the waitress yesterday in the resturant we were in as she was carrying two boxes of beer and she was totally flabagasted that i’d help rather than ignore her.

Oh Kat, I never looked at it that way! You’re so right – all the awesomeness has already been happening through the Insider Program – heh heh – and it hasn’t even officially started yet!!!

    Hey Hannah!

Holding the door open for someone nearly always brings a smile doesn’t it? Especially when it’s unexpected.

I’m sure you made the waitress smile with your good deed :)

I hate days like that! On the bright side, though…emerald green (as well as other colors of eyeliner) are a lot of fun! I have a plum color I use. It will also make you stand out a bit more.

If you have the receipt, any retail store can usually take the security tag off a product for you. It may be a bit late now, but for next time, run into the closest one (this happens to me all the time!).

Karen, you’d think I’d KNOW by now wouldn’t you??? Crystal has dinged all three of my cars over the last 10 years – and I still ask her to drive… really, she’s a very good driver – just has very bad luck!

    Hey Dina,

I actually really like the emerald green eyeliner :) so that turned out to be a very good bit of bad Karma.

As for the security tag, at least it’s on the side bottom of the jacket and hardly shows. Of course my ‘friends’ all accused me of shoplifting it :) I’ll take it in to a local store tomorrow and ask them to remove it. Luckily I do have my receipt.
