The view from my ‘Pop’s’ bedroom window in Egmont on the Sunshine Coast is amazing and definitely needs to be framed!

When I worked in the Blogger Lounge at Affiliate Summit New York last August, I met a lot of interesting people and made many great contacts!

My friend Connie from Brain Foggles and I spoke to a man from Best Home Fashion. He was speaking to various bloggers in the room, wanting product reviews. After the show, Connie (who’s great at follow up) contacted him and he sent her a number of products to review on her blog.

I was especially interested in the Blackout Curtains as my 96 year old ‘Pop’ had a blind that was nearly the same age as him and it needed replacing. He likes all the light to be cut out of the room so he doesn’t wake up at dawn. I thought the curtains would look nicer than the old green blind.

After Connie reviewed the curtains she realized she couldn’t use them and offered them to me. She gave them to me at IZEAFest in Orlando and I stuffed them in Crystal’s suitcase – LOL – they were heavy!

Once back at Pop’s I opened the package to see if they were suitable for Pop’s bedroom. To my surprise they were a lovely shade of irridescent blue, matched a color in his duvet perfectly and looked GREAT with the wall color.

I bought a curtain rod at Rona and Pop and I installed it. This was an extremely funny event as I’m weak and Pop is so shaky on his feet I don’t like him to be on a ladder. After stripping the first screw head, I realized I HAD to drill the holes deeper before inserting the screw. I couldn’t get the first screw out so just went ahead and put two more in to hold the bracket. Of course it ended up crooked with Pop saying it would never work and asking why I hadn’t measured. Finally I told him I used the original holes and that it was his fault because they were crooked.

It took ‘us’ about an hour to get the brackets up, then I pressed the curtains and fed them onto the rod. Now came the really hard part – getting the rod onto the brackets. Of course the first end went easily, with the plastic being very forgiving even though the bracket was crooked. Pop came over to help hold up the curtain rod while I moved my ladder to the other end, but he had no way of holding the rod in the air. His cane is very useful for many things, but not to hold a rod in the air. He found a long pole with a sander end and between the two of us we managed to get the rod in place.

The curtains look beautiful and frame the lovely view from Pop’s bedroom window! Thanks so much to Best Home Fashion for the chance to review these blackout curtains. Pop likes the way the blackout curtains really do block the light, while looking GREAT in his bedroom!
